With its peaceful fishing holes, miles of hiking trails and world-famous historic sites, our little corner of New Mexico is already a beautiful place to live. Thanks to the ongoing efforts of the local citizenry, we’ve been able to cultivate a lively, family-friendly environment in which to live. Now, thanks to a generous grant from the Keep New Mexico True program, the local government will have the resources it needs to make Ruidoso even better.

According to Ruidoso News, nearly $20,000 dollars has been allotted to beautification efforts in the Village of Ruidoso. These efforts include village-wide cleanup events, maintenance projects in a number of parks and public spaces, and community recruitment programs to assist in weed control.

Meanwhile, in Ruidoso Downs, and additional $13,000 will be spent at the Outdoor Learning Center in All-America Park. The Learning Center consists of a garden where elementary school-aged children learn to cultivate fruits, vegetables, herbs and other plants native to New Mexico. The grant money will be used to purchase new educational materials, expand volunteerism in the project and facilitate the sale of fruits and vegetables at the local farmers market.

This year, Keep New Mexico True has committed a total of $700,000 in beautification grants to 42 programs throughout the state. Here in Ruidoso, we’re grateful to have received so much support from the state to promote beautification efforts in our area. We can’t wait to see what the community will be able to accomplish with these new resources.
