Later this month, on the weekend of June 25 and 26, the Village of Ruidoso will host a marathon showcasing some of the most beautiful scenery in our area. In addition to the 26 mile race through Ruidoso, there will also be a half-marathon, 5K and a one mile fun run for kids.

The event was established thanks to the efforts of Claire and Tomas Forsmann – outdoor enthusiasts who have participated in a variety of skiing, running and bicycle events in the Ruidoso area. After proposing the idea for the race to the parks and recreation department, they decided that Ruidoso’s high elevation would make it an ideal location for a summer race.

The shorter raises will be held in the evening of June 25. The Marathon will kick of the next morning bright and early at 6 a.m. The half marathon will begin an hour and a half later at 7:30. According to Ruidoso News, 130 runners have registered for the race so far.

Registration for the races is still open! If you’d like to participate, you can register here! If you’re not much of a runner but you’d still like to get involved, the marathon is also in need of volunteers to work at water stations, hand out foot and drinks at the finish, and help out with various other activities during the race.

The top three male and female finishers in the marathon will each win cash prizes following the race. Everyone who finishes the marathon and half marathon will receive a commemorative medal.

Be sure to swing by and check it out! The marathon will start at the White Mountain Recreational Complex.
